This module explains how to use OpsDriver’s Relief Builder to create a round-trip driver relief. This includes relief driver assignments on both the departure and return legs of a trip.
A group is traveling from New York to Disney, with driver reliefs scheduled in Charlotte on both the outbound and return legs.
Open the booking and click into the route.
Label the route something clear like “Main”—this route will:
Be shown to the customer
Be hidden from dispatch
Serve as the base itinerary for relief creation
Click the Build Relief button within the route.
Accept the beta feature prompt.
Select Both Departure and Return when prompted.
Set Relief Location: Charlotte
Choose Vehicle Type: Swap Car
Set Relief Driver In-Position Time:
Arrival: March 1 at 2100 (scheduled trip arrival at 2130)
Set Return to Yard Time for relieved driver:
Departure: March 2 at 0800
This means the relief driver will arrive early, stay overnight, then return to the yard the next morning.
Set Relief Location: Charlotte
Choose Vehicle Type: Swap Car
Set Relief Driver In-Position Time:
Arrival: March 8 at 0200 (scheduled trip arrival at 0230)
Set Return to Yard Time:
Departure: March 8 at 1600
This sets up the second relief, ensuring continuity for the return leg.
The system will generate a set of routes:
Relief vehicle outbound/inbound
Main driver positioning
Relief driver trips
Main route with designated segments
Review the automatically generated start/end times, locations, and vehicle assignments
Click Finalize Relief
You will now see all new relief routes listed under the booking, including:
Each relief leg with its own route
The original “Main” route, hidden from dispatch but visible to the customer
All segments clearly labeled for driver and dispatch visibility
To confirm:
Navigate to the Dispatch Scheduler
Filter for the trip dates (e.g., March 1–8)
You’ll see:
The main trip
Each relief route
All segments ready for vehicle and driver assignment
Assign:
Swap cars to the car segments
Motor coaches to the bus segments
Drivers to their respective legs of the journey
Once assigned, the system is fully configured and ready for execution.
Always clearly label the main route (e.g., “Billing” or “Customer Itinerary”)
Double-check timing for overlap or gaps before finalizing
Use the dispatch board view to visualize timing and coverage
This module explains how to use the Relief Builder to create a one-way driver relief, allowing you to manage long-haul trips where a relief driver is needed only on the outbound leg (not the return).
A trip from New York to Disney requires a driver change in Charlotte on the way down, but not on the way back.
Open the booking and click into the route that represents the main customer-facing itinerary.
Use a descriptive name like “Billing” or “Main” to label the route—this helps distinguish it from the relief segments.
Click the Build Relief button.
Accept the beta feature notice when prompted.
Select Departure Segment Only when asked what part of the trip needs relief.
Enter the relief location (e.g., Charlotte).
Select the vehicle type the relief driver will use (e.g., “Swap Car”).
Enter the relief logistics:
Inbound Relief Driver Arrival:
Example: Arrives in Charlotte May 14 at 1800 for an overnight stay.
Relieved Driver Return:
Example: Leaves Charlotte on May 16 at 0600 to return to the yard.
Click Continue.
The system will display a summary of the four routes it will generate:
Relief Vehicle Outbound (swap car to relief point)
Relieved Driver Return Trip (car returns to yard)
Main Vehicle with Relief Driver Segment
Main Vehicle Positioning to Trip Start
Click Finalize Relief to create and save all four routes.
After finalizing:
Your original “Billing” route remains for customer-facing documents.
Marked as “Hide from Dispatch”
Used only for quotes, invoices, or itineraries
The four new routes:
Used for dispatch only
Set to Hide from Customer and Hide from Invoice
Labeled as Relief Assignments for clarity in dispatch reports
Dispatchers see only the four operational routes, not the billing route
Drivers receive accurate work tickets for their leg of the trip
Customers still receive a clean itinerary with the original billing route
Always name the original route clearly (e.g., “Billing” or “Main”) for internal clarity
Double-check relief times to avoid gaps or overlaps in trip coverage
Confirm vehicle types and relief locations match your operations plan
This module explains how to use the Relief Builder to automatically insert hotel stops for relief drivers—both for the driver being positioned into the relief point and for the driver being relieved who is returning the next day.
Use this feature when:
A relief driver is traveling the night before to be in position for an early swap
A relieved driver will stay overnight after completing their trip segment before returning to the yard
This ensures accurate stops, wait times, and realistic dispatch planning.
Open a booking and go to the route you want to apply relief to.
Click Build Relief.
On the Positioning Times page of the Relief Builder, look for the hotel options.
Check the box: “Add a hotel for position drivers”
Enter the hotel name (e.g., “Charlotte Airport Hotel”)
Specify arrival timing:
Typically the night before the trip (e.g., June 14 if the swap is June 15)
Enter an arrival time (e.g., evening arrival)
Set the in-position time for the relief driver the day of the trip:
Typically 10–15 minutes before the actual swap
Example: Scheduled arrival at 6:25 PM → In-position time = 6:10 PM
Check the second box: “Add a hotel for the relieved driver”
Use the same hotel or enter a different one
Set the departure time from the hotel:
Usually the morning after the relief
Example: Departure = 7:00 AM the day after the swap
Click Continue
Then click Finalize Relief
The system will:
Generate all appropriate dispatch segments
Automatically insert hotel stops in the correct relief routes
Assign arrival and departure times based on the hotel scheduling inputs
To confirm:
Open one of the new relief vehicle routes
You’ll see the hotel listed as a stop in the route timeline
This allows dispatch to clearly see where and when each driver is lodging.
Ensures realistic trip planning for overnight relief swaps
Automatically builds hotel segments into dispatch timelines
Provides full visibility for driver instructions and resource management
Use consistent hotel naming for clarity across bookings
Plan hotel stops a day before or after the swap based on driver schedules
Verify arrival/departure times to avoid overlapping with route legs
