Split Route Functionality

Split Route Functionality

Overview

This module explains how to use the Split Route function in OpsDriver to divide a single route into two separate segments. This is useful when a trip contains multiple destinations that require dispatch or billing separation.

1. When to Use Split Route

Use the split route function when:

  • You want to break a single itinerary into multiple dispatchable segments

  • The trip includes multiple destination points (e.g., theme park followed by a museum)

  • Each part of the trip needs individual management (e.g., different drivers, vehicles, invoices)

2. Example Scenario

Trip includes:

  • Pickup at E.O. Smith High School

  • Stop at Six Flags (intended to be the first route’s destination)

  • Continue to Basketball Hall of Fame

  • Return to school

The goal is to split this trip after Six Flags, so each leg is treated independently.

3. Steps to Split a Route

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Open the booking that contains the full route.

  2. Scroll to the Route section and click into the current route.

  3. Click Edit Segments to view each stop.

You must designate a destination stop to split the route correctly.

  1. Under the stop where you want the first route to end (e.g., Six Flags):

    • Check the box labeled Destination

  2. Click Save or return to the route view.

  3. Click the Split Route button.

  4. Confirm when prompted.

4. What Happens After Splitting

  • The first route now ends at the selected destination (e.g., Six Flags).

  • new route is created that:

    • Begins at that destination

    • Includes all remaining stops (e.g., Basketball Hall of Fame → Return to E.O. Smith)

You now have two separate routes within the booking.

5. Review the New Routes

Return to the Booking Overview:

  • Scroll to the Routes section

  • You’ll see:

    • Original Route 1: School → Six Flags

    • New Route 2: Six Flags → Hall of Fame → Return

Click into each route to confirm stops and timing are correct.

6. Why This Is Useful

  • Allows you to assign different drivers or vehicles to each leg

  • Enables better dispatch planning and work ticket clarity

  • Supports billing or operational separation between trip segments

Best Practices

  • Always mark the correct Destination stop before splitting

  • Review each new route to confirm accuracy

  • Name each route clearly (e.g., “AM Trip” / “PM Trip” or “Route A” / “Route B”)
