Enhanced Pricing Setup

Enhanced Pricing Setup

Enhanced Pricing Setup

Overview

This module provides guidance on configuring advanced pricing equations in OpsDriver, including enhanced hourly and mileage calculations, inclusion rates, and segment-based pricing logic. These tools allow for more precise and profitable pricing across varied trip types.

1. Basic vs. Enhanced Pricing

By default, TBN uses simple pricing models:

  • Daily Rate

  • Flat Hourly Rate

  • Flat Mileage Rate

At any time, the active pricing equation for a vehicle type can be viewed at the bottom of the Hourly or Mileage rate sections within vehicle setup.

Enhanced pricing enables greater flexibility and sophistication in how your rates are calculated.

2. Enhanced Hourly Pricing

This option introduces tiered hourly billing, ideal for minimum service windows or packages.

Equation Components:

  • Initial Rate: A base price that covers an included number of hours

  • Included Hours: Hours covered by the initial rate

  • Hourly Rate Beyond: Applied only after the included hours are exceeded

Example:
Initial Rate = $600 for 5 hours
Hourly Rate Beyond = $125/hour after 5 hours

3. Enhanced Mileage Pricing

Enhanced mileage pricing allows billing flexibility for longer or segmented trips.

Equation Components:

  • Initial Rate: Covers a minimum number of miles

  • Included Miles: Covered by the initial rate

  • Per-Mile Rate Beyond: Applies only after included miles are exceeded

Example:
Initial Rate = $350 for 100 miles
Mileage Rate Beyond = $2.75 per mile

4. Live Miles vs. Dead Miles

You can split mileage into two categories:

  • Live Miles: The customer’s portion of the trip (pickup to drop-off)

  • Dead Miles: Bus travel to/from the yard (to the first pickup and from the final drop-off)

Each type can have:

  • Its own initial rate

  • Its own included miles

  • A separate rate per mile beyond included miles

Example:

  • Live Mileage: $2.00/mile

  • Dead Mileage: $1.25/mile

  • 50 miles included in each

This helps control pricing when trips start far from the yard or have complex staging.

5. Viewing the Current Pricing Equation

Each time you adjust settings:

  • The updated pricing equation is displayed at the bottom of the rate section

  • This gives real-time visibility into how quotes will be calculated

6. Best Practices

  • Use Enhanced Hourly Pricing for charter blocks or event coverage

  • Use Enhanced Mileage Pricing when trips involve longer deadhead or segmented travel

  • Set included hours/miles generously to reduce customer surprise and simplify quotes

  • Always review the displayed pricing equation to confirm accuracy
